One Roof, Many Lives: How Acrylabs Transforms Existing Systems Without a Tear-Off

Updated: 2 days ago

When it comes to roofing, the word “replacement” often comes with dollar signs, downtime, and disruption. But what if you didn’t have to tear off an old roof to give it a new life? Enter Acrylabs—and their A.L.A.R.M. System (Acrylabs Liquid Applied Roof Membrane). Whether you’re working with EPDM, metal, or TPO, this liquid-applied solution lets you skip the costly tear-off and extend the roof’s service life with a seamless, sustainable system.

Roofing Smarter, Not Harder

Contractors and architects know the frustration of facing a worn-out membrane or rusted panels. But total replacement isn’t the only route. Acrylabs’ system works directly over existing substrates—saving labor, material, and disposal costs, while still delivering high-performance waterproofing.

Acrylabs EPDM Roof

In Reading, Pennsylvania, the Acrylabs Liquid Applied Roof Membrane (A.L.A.R.M.) - System was applied to an aging EPDM roof. Our system is a smart alternative to traditional roof replacements by eliminating the need for costly tear-offs. Unlike disposable EPDM roofing, the A.L.A.R.M. System is both sustainable and renewable, designed to extend the life of a roof rather than send it to a landfill. In this project, the ballasted rock was removed, revealing the underlying EPDM membrane and significantly reducing the structural load. After a thorough cleaning with Acrylabs Rinse Prep and reinforcement with plates and screws, the roof was ready for restoration. The Acrylabs Base System was then applied, followed by two Finish Coats, resulting in a seamless, watertight membrane built to last.

Metal Roof? No Problem.

Down in Kingstree, South Carolina, a metal roof with rust issues got a new lease on life. After a power wash and some TLC with Acrylabs Metal Prep, crews tackled seams, fasteners, and protrusions with brushable sealant and fabric reinforcement. Two finish coats later—including a splash of safety yellow for visibility—the roof was watertight, seamless, and renewed. No tear-off required.

Traction + Protection: The TPO Win

In Towanda, Pennsylvania, a failing TPO roof was revitalized using the same A.L.A.R.M. system—plus a safety boost. On top of the base and finish coats, crews rolled out Acrylabs Liquid Walk Pad in Preservation Red to add a grippy, non-slip surface. Perfect for high-traffic maintenance areas or places where safety is non-negotiable.

Why It Works

What makes the Acrylabs approach stand out? Here’s a quick breakdown:

Sustainable – Keeps roofing materials out of landfills.

Seamless – Eliminates water entry points found in traditional systems.

Renewable – Once installed, the membrane can be re-coated again years down the road.

Versatile – Whether you’re dealing with rubber, metal, or thermoplastics, it adapts.
